To mark International Women’s Day, we wanted to give an insight into how we’re taking action to tackle the gender imbalance within the tech industry, as well as giving a shout out to a few of the women having a major impact at Wise.

To set the scene, here are a few statistics from both Women in Tech and PWC, which sum up the current state of the gender imbalance within the industry:

• Women currently make up just 19% of roles within the UK technology industry 

• Only 3% of females say that a career in technology is their first choice 

• 78% of people studying STEM courses could not name a famous female within the UK technology industry 

The Wise culture has compassion and inclusion at the heart of it, and our People and Culture Team work hard to make sure that this is evident each and every day. For instance, for a number of years we’ve worked closely with Birmingham-based skills bootcamp, School of Code, to make sure that we’re able to meet, interview and recruit people from every background and profile.

Along with this, we’re proud to be full signatories of the Tech Talent Charter™ (TTC). This is a non-profit organisation that is leading the movement to address diversity and inclusion in a practical and measurable way, working with a variety of UK businesses to help them work towards this.

International Women’s Day is as good a time as any to give a special shout out to some of the women that are playing vital roles within the business on a day-to-day basis.

Kate Harrison

Joining us almost exactly a year ago, Kate is a key part of the Product team at Wise, helping the company to create and optimise the next generation of technology within self-employment. Kate works closely with stakeholders across the business, senior management and the development team to make sure that our software provides the maximum benefit to our clients.

Becky Fenwick

Previously a Project Manager, Becky is someone who many of our clients will know very well as she plays a key role within our Account Management team. Client-facing and one of the most visible people within Wise from a customer perspective, Becky and the rest of the team provide vital support and advice to our 250-strong client base, making sure that they are maximising the benefit of the Wise system within their business.

Chloe Tierney-Martin

Joining us straight from university, Chloe is the newest member to the marketing team. Her role varies day-to-day as she supports the PR, digital and social media outputs from the marketing team, Chloe’s creative touch is all over most of the content you see from Team Wise!

Jessica Back

As Head of Client Relations at Wise, Jess leads our talented team of account managers from the London office and plays a key role in making sure that our technology is providing the utmost support and benefits to our growing client base. Tuned into the diverse needs of our clients, Jess works closely with various areas of the business to make sure our technology is suited to their businesses.
